The core values of the naval wing of the US
military are honor, courage and commitment and the chief area
of operations is sea-based. Navy jobs however, are not entirely
about sea missions. The US military
employs the resources of the navy for preventive diplomacy, policy
enforcement, teaming with and defending allies.
Since navy jobs are principally sea based, they
require personnel to spend a lot of uninterrupted time aboard
ships and submarines having confined spaces. So if an individual
is not fond of the sea and does not like small spaces navy jobs
are not for them. They may however consider army jobs if they
are considering military careers.
There can be military careers
possible doing diverse works such as commanding a tank, programming
computers, operating a nuclear reactor or repairing and maintaining
a state of the art fighter jet.
The basis of the army however, is combat and army
jobs in the combat specialty occupations such as infantry,
artillery, and Special Forces require personnel to operate weapons
and participate in combat operations. They are required to fight
the enemy by firing guns, missiles, and artillery and operate
tanks and amphibious assault vehicles. Jobs are present in fields
of space operations, emergency management environmental health
and safety and intelligence. The armed forces come into play in
the time of natural calamities such as floods, tornadoes, and
earthquakes for relief and rehabilitation works. Military
jobs are even present in the domain of media and public affairs.
There are many jobs connected with transport both for vehicle
operators and experts for maintenance of those vehicles.
Military recruiting provides
the training and opportunity for people to work in fields as diverse
as the examples above and many others. In fact military
recruiting has provided jobs to some 1.4 million people on
active duty in the armed forces. In addition there are a further
1.1 million persons in the military
reserves of the different services. Jobs in the military
reserve also can be of the enlisted or officer categories.
While most reserves are in the unit program, there are several
other categories of reserves such as Ready Reserve, Standby Reserve,
Inactive Ready Reserve or Retired Reserve.
