Military recruiting programs are created to
encourage young people to join the US
military and serve a tour of duty. There are various programs
which would interest young people in military
careers, such as the Montgomery GI Bill, the Tuition Assistance
program, College funds, the student loan repayment program, service
members opportunity colleges, reserve officers training corps
scholarships and the US military
service academies.
Each of the services has their own academies, in which all students
receive a full scholarship and even a monthly stipend. These academies
provide four year courses of higher learning. Military
recruiting programs also offer the ROTC scholarships
which give you financial assistance for school while you are in
school. You would be required to take one military science course
along with your other course load. When individuals graduate,
military careers as officers
await them. The service members opportunity colleges, also part
of the military recruiting program, is a consortium
of about 1550 colleges and universities which provide educational
opportunities for service members and their families. This is
managed by the Defense Activity for Non-traditional Education
Support (DANTES).
Since the military wants to encourage young people to get into
the military even while pursuing civilian lives, there exists
the option of being part of the military reserve. There are army
jobs, navy jobs and jobs in
the other services offered by the military
reserve, which prepare you for active duty should the nation
be at war or in armed conflict or be in the middle of any national
emergency. The reserves, other than their combat missions, also
have peacetime missions such as international humanitarian relief
missions. There is also the individual Mobilization Augmentee
reserve category where reserves are assigned active duty unit
to do jobs essential during wartime but do not require full time
manning during peacetime.
If however, you are looking for a full time military career,
you may want to consider navy jobs.
The US navy operates in over a 100 countries including the U.K.,
Germany, Italy, Bahrain, Brazil, South Korea, Australia, Afghanistan,
Iraq, and Japan. If you are considering army
jobs, you may want to call to mind the role of the army in
operations such as Desert Storm and actions in Afghanistan and
Iraq, and get into a career to help to protect the nation and
its principles.
